The course taught healthcare workers about Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and Critical Care. The IPC training models taught the required IPC precautions that should be taken at any coronavirus isolation center.
For example, participants are learning about effective hand-washing, medical waste management, care bundles and properly donning and doffing their personal protective equipment before entering and exiting the patient rooms.
In addition to IPC, the Critical Care models focus on the proper and safe use of mechanical ventilators, oxygen therapy and how to interpret arterial blood gases, and how to assess and manage critically ill patients.
The course is specially designed to manage COVID-19 patients in low-income countries (LICs) like Sudan. Hence, the training is taking into consideration the level of experience and knowledge of healthcare workers and the resources available to them.
